LARGO DAS ARTES: DAY 28

Today 1st of March is the Foundation day of Rio de Janeiro celebrating 540 years when the Portogueses built Rio in 1540! There were several events around the city. We chose to visit Parque Lage celebrating 40 years of foundation of the Visual Art Institution and The Institute Moreira Saies (IMS) with a historical retrospective of the city. At Parque Lage I discovered how the inflatable subject is very trendy in the visual art at Rio. I arrived just in time to see a big plastic baloon taking off in direction of the statue of Christ positioned on top of Corcovado's mountain just behind the palace!

We also met Domingos Guimaraens, my friend from OPAVIVARÁ art group, performing there (photo n.4 wearing an orange T-shirt), and the owner of Gentil Carioca gallery (photo n.1). There was a very nice atmosphere with all these artists and Carioca families doing picnic in the park and all the contemporary artworks exhibited there.

Between Parque Lage and IMS we walked through a very nice antique and second hand market in Leblon where we found some gift to buy for us and family.

We ended our journey with a visit to the Institute Moreira Saies (IMS) in Lavea to see the present exhibition and have a stroll outside in the garden.
