LARGO DAS ARTES: DAY ONE

During the first day of art residency at Largo das Artes I have been immersed by colours and materials visiting the main market in Rio centro with Friederico Pellachin that is curating the communication and residency program.

I have a studio now to fill up with new ideas. Inspired by the colours and sounds of the Brazilian multi-culture I am exploring concepts of vibration, mixing entities and colours. Today I did my first research  of second hand speakers's shells. My plan is to make vibrating light material inside of the speakers' shells while recording the sound during the Carnival of Rio. Tomorrow I will research the light material, first day by myself, I need to become a cunning fox to face the real world of the streets!

I am been visiting the Centro Municipal des Artes Helio Oiticica. There is an interesting library to visit from 3 to 6pm and an inspiring exhibition called 'Celina Portella E Movimento 2'.

I am also impressed by the exhibition hold at Largo das Artes and as one public installation covering the facade of an historic building just outside of the residence center. It is called "The Nationality of the Objects", which will bring together the works of artists Tamirys Araújo and Camila Cañeque.
"Tamyris is a Rio de Janeiro based artist selected to the second edition of our Programa Claraboia. During two months, she took one of our residency studios and received curatorial and artistic support for the deepening of her investigation about the pictorial space and Brazilian popular culture, resulting in a series of three-dimensional paintings that will take Largo das Artes gallery space. On the other hand, Spanish artist Camila Cañeque was selected for another cycle of our International Art Residency Programme and will occupy an abandoned building in the historical city center of Rio de Janeiro with her public intervention project “”. This work comes from a Chinese ideogram meaning “Pavillion” and it addresses issues such as the process of global “chinification” and the hysterical drift in which we are all immersed".
